Express yourself the Lebanese way

We, Lebanese, have a very special way of expressing our feelings. A way, I must admit, I haven’t seen or heard about in any other country in the world.
Some people dance, other cry, people write, laugh etc… But WE do it with guns !
I really wonder how come I’m 30 years old and never held a gun, I should be the shame of the country. Because here, whatever it is we just let out some gun shots.
- In weddings we shoot
- In funerals we shoot
- A friend/parent/etc.. is back from a trip ? We shoot
- Gotta a problem ? Shoot him and don’t worry about it anymore
- Your political leader is on TV ? We shoot
- The opponent political leader is on TV ? Shoot louder than the others are shooting
- Had a problem with your wife ? Go to the balcony shoot out that stress
- It is a BOY !!! Shoot
- it is a GIRL !!! Doesn’t matter shoot anyway
- You’re happy ? Shoot high in the sky !
At this point you might wonder what is the national sport here in Lebanon !

Here is a small story I would like to share: Yesterday, I was having coffee with a friend, squeezed between 2 meetings as we all do. As usual we were going through the usuals: chou 3amel? wayn cheghlak? kifo foulen? etc…. and this is how I got one of the most unusual answers and also one of the most optmistic and encouraging ones: He was just back to Lebanon (after 10 years between France and Germany), his cousin was back as well (he was living in France though), and all our common friends were well established with jobds in Lebanon and happy to be here. To tell the truth: I just cancelled my following meeting, spending time with such persons is a gift worth….
